Stone’s New Saison & a Summery Seafood Treat

I hate to pick a favorite style of beer – BUT if I was forced to, at gun-point, saison would narrowly win.

As you know, saison and I have been in a torrid love affair for some time now. I love it’s zippy carbonation, lemony brightness, and peppery bite. Because of these aspects, saison is particularly wonderful when paired with food. The citrus character shines and the pepper sings. The carbonation cleanses the palate after each sip.

Just wonderful.

Stone Saison Beer

Obviously I was AMPED when a representative from Stone Brewing Company reached out to see if I’d be interested in writing a recipe that included their brand new beer, Stone Saison.

But first, let’s talk about the beer. Continue reading Stone’s New Saison & a Summery Seafood Treat

10 Ways to Cook with BEER!

It’s no surprise that I love to cook with beer. My recent interview with the fine folks of the Ohio Beercast inspired me to think about all the various ways you can use beer in cooking. I was amazed at all of the options I came up with – practically limitless.

To get us thinking, here are 10 Ways to Cook with Beer:

1.) Add beer to soups and stews.

Subbing a bit of beer for water or broth in your soups and stews can really amp up the flavor. Chili is a classic with beer – try BeerQuest ABV’s tasty looking beer chili, or branch out with this spicy Indian tomato soup from Draft Magazine.

2.) ‘Beerinade’ your meat.

Grilling season and beer, there is practically nothing better. A simple marinade with beer, salt, and a bit of oil is all you need to enhance the flavor of your favorite steak or chicken. Add extra herbs and spices for the perfect ‘beerinade.’

Beer Cheese {Guest Post!}

Hey there. I’m Tom Aguero and I write QueenCityDrinks.com – a blog about beer, liquor, and wine, and especially about all those things in and around Cincinnati. My blog is just about drinks not food, and certainly not recipes, so I immediately reached out to my friend Lindsay here at Love Beer, Love Food when I came across this delicious beer cheese recipe.

I love going to bottle shares and usually bring a bottle or two of beer, but when I don’t bring beer, I always bring food. Actually, there is only 1 food I ever bring, and it’s Servatii’s soft pretzels and beer cheese. I have yet to see a disappointed face when they see me show up with these tasty treats. Confused faces maybe if they’ve never had it before, but confusion turns to delight at first taste. Continue reading Beer Cheese {Guest Post!}

Mussels Two Ways – cheap, easy, and made with BEER!

Don’t run away! Mussels truly are delicious, affordable, and easy to make.

Over the years I developed a love hate relationship with these shiny little mollusks. Love at first, then hate after a bad experience at a restaurant, and now, back to love. The mussel hiatus was officially lifted this October while visiting friends in Seattle. They whipped up a simple batch of mussels served with crusty bread that were so fresh and delicious it completely changed my tune. I learned then what I didn’t know during the hate phase: mussels are ridiculously easy to make at home and they are cheap! Add some beer and you have, perhaps, the perfect meal. Make your own beer mustard.

Seriously, do it. It is ridiculously easy. I’ll never buy mustard again.

I heard about making this pantry staple from friends of mine the day of our Cheese and Beer Pairing get together. They let me try some of their own homemade mustard and it was crazy good. When they said, all you have to do is mix beer, mustard seeds, and vinegar, I was sold. Could have stopped at “beer”. Continue reading Make your own beer mustard.
